The story behind SalaamStreet
Version 3.0.5
SalaamStreet didn't start as an app. When Ibrahim was 12, it was an Islamic-themed online shop he built on Shopify. It didn't take off. His next attempt didn't either.
But Ibrahim kept the name and changed the idea. Instead of selling things to Muslims, what if SalaamStreet gave them something — every day, for free?
Today Ibrahim is a student at Neuqua Valley High School, where he's part of the Muslim Student Association.
SalaamStreet is one calm place to find prayer times, face the Qibla, read and listen to the Qur'an, learn authentic duas, track your prayers, start learning Arabic and remember Allah — with no ads, no account required, and your data staying on your device unless you choose to sign in and sync it.
Ibrahim had the idea; his father, Aquil, helped bring it to life.
Our promise
- Everything you need stays free, forever. Prayer times, Qibla, the Qur'an, duas, dhikr, the prayer tracker, Arabic learning and syncing across your devices will never be behind a paywall.
- Paid extras will only ever be for things that genuinely cost money to provide — like an AI tutor or live courses — and you'll be able to choose a subscription or pay once and own it forever.
- One day, the SalaamStreet shop may return too — while the app itself stays free.

Analytics for admins
The Admin Panel has a new Analytics tab — guests, growth and how SalaamStreet is used — and a shorter Overview. To count guests, the app now adds 1 to an anonymous daily count of visits: no identifiers, and not at all with Do Not Track on.
Privacy
- Each day, the first time SalaamStreet opens, your device adds 1 to an anonymous count of visits — only the day and the total are kept
- No identifier, IP address or device details are sent or kept, and devices with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control aren't counted
Admin Panel
- A new Analytics tab, second in line: guests per day, sign-ups over 30 days, sign-in methods, languages, reminder devices by region, what people use, SalaamStreet AI and moderation
- A shorter Overview: what needs you, today's numbers (guests included), sign-ups, SalaamStreet AI and the newest accounts
- Version 3.0.4
MSA announcements for members
NVHS MSA announcements are now for members only. Not a member yet? Sign in with your school email, or — to see them on your personal account — ask Ibrahim Ahmed for the meeting code.
NVHS MSA
- Announcements and their pictures are only shown to MSA members (and on members' Home)
- On a personal account? Ask Ibrahim Ahmed for the 6-digit meeting code in person, by text or by email — each code works for 10 minutes
- For MSA admins: the meeting code shows the time it changes (on the ten minutes), not a countdown
- Version 3.0.3
Fairer bans
A banned account can now still sign in: to see why, to appeal, and to keep using everything that works without an account. Only the account's online features are off while it's banned — SalaamStreet AI, the NVHS MSA and sync.
If an account is banned
- You can still sign in, see the reason and appeal at any time from the red bar at the top
- Prayer times, the Qur'an, duas and everything else that works without an account keep working
- SalaamStreet AI, the NVHS MSA and sync are off until the ban ends or is lifted; your data stays on your device
- A ban for an offensive name or email is stricter: the app shows only the ban until it's lifted
- Version 3.0.2
Community Rules
SalaamStreet now has Community Rules that everyone with an account agrees to. If an account breaks them, the team can send a warning or ban it — and a banned account is told exactly why and can appeal. Bans now take effect straight away, on every device.
Community Rules
- Seven short rules, on the Terms page: respectful names, using SalaamStreet AI respectfully and for what it's for, no impersonation, appropriate MSA posts, one account per person, no hacking
- Tick “I agree” before signing in; if you already have an account you'll be asked once
Fair warnings and bans
- A warning shows the rule that was broken and a message from the team
- A ban shows its reason, the team's message and when it ends — and works at once, on every device
- Think a ban is a mistake? Appeal it from the ban screen; the team reads every appeal and replies
- Banned or not, prayer times, the Qur'an and everything else stay free without an account
Also
- Occasional notices from the team at the top of Home (you can hide them)
- Version 3.0.1
Keeping SalaamStreet safe
Behind the scenes: a private Admin Panel lets the SalaamStreet team deal quickly with abusive accounts, on the website and in the iPhone app. Sign-ups with offensive names are caught for review, and every admin action is recorded. Nothing changes for you, and your AI conversations and synced notes stay private — the team only sees counts.
A safer community
- New accounts whose email or name contains a slur are flagged for the team to review, or refused outright
- The team can ban, sign out or remove accounts that break the rules, and pause SalaamStreet AI for someone misusing it
- Every admin action is recorded, so it's clear who did what and when
Your privacy
- Admins see counts only — never your AI conversations, bookmarks or notes
iPhone app
- SalaamStreet AI can be reached from the iPhone app as well as the website
- Version 3.0.0
The AI update
SalaamStreet AI is out of beta. It now answers from the app's own Qur'an, tafsir and hadith wherever it can, shows you that text under its answer, and links every ayah it mentions. Plus follow-up suggestions, read aloud, saving a conversation and telling us when an answer helped. It's still free for everyone with an account.
Answers built on verified text
- Mention an ayah like 2:255 and its Arabic and translation from the app go with your question, so it's quoted exactly
- New /tafsir 2:255 explains Tafsir Ibn Kathir for an ayah in plain language, from the app's own tafsir text
- New /hadith nawawi 1 (or bukhari, muslim, abu dawud…) explains a hadith from the app's 10 collections, with its grading
- “Verified text from the app” under each answer shows exactly what it was given, with a link to open it in the Qur'an or Hadith
- Ayah references in answers are links: tap one to read it in the Qur'an, then come back to your conversation
- In the tafsir sheet: “Ask SalaamStreet AI about this ayah”
Easier to use
- Follow-up suggestions under the latest answer: explain it more simply, the evidence, a dua for it, or a 3-point summary
- Read aloud: any answer, in your device's own voice
- Save: download the conversation as a text file — it's kept only on your device
- Was it helpful? Tap 👍 or 👎 — only the rating is kept, never what you asked
- Commands finish themselves: type /taf and press Tab, and the chips narrow as you type
Out of beta
- SalaamStreet AI is no longer a beta — still free for everyone with an account, with a daily allowance
- Updated Terms of Use: you'll be asked to agree once more before your next question
- Version 3.0.0-beta
SalaamStreet AI (Beta)
Meet SalaamStreet AI, an Islamic assistant for everyone with a free account. Ask about the Qur'an, hadith, prayer, duas and Muslim life, or use commands that work with your own bookmarks and progress. It's a beta, so answers can be wrong — always check anything important.
SalaamStreet AI (Beta)
- An Islamic assistant for everyone with a free account — find it in the menu as SalaamStreet AI
- It only answers Islamic questions, never invents verses or hadith, and points you to a scholar for rulings
- Commands: /bookmarks, /ayah 2:255, /progress, /plan, /dua, /quiz and /reflect — type /help to see them all
- With your permission it uses your bookmarks, reading progress, prayers and dhikr to make answers personal
Fair for everyone
- A free daily allowance of questions during the beta
- When lots of people are asking at once, you wait in a short line and your question is sent automatically
- Your conversations aren't saved — they're gone when you leave the page
- Version 2.11.8
Steadier Qibla camera, MSA admins
The Qibla camera no longer jumps or flickers, and the NVHS MSA has one list of admins who post and manage — with new tools to add students and admins.
Qibla camera fixes
- On iPhone, holding the phone upright no longer makes the direction swing round or spin
- No more flicker: the turn instruction, the Kaaba marker, the arrow and “Raise your phone” only change when the change is real
- Opening camera mode from a link or after a reload now shows the Qibla on the heading strip and its degrees
- The camera tells you when the compass needs calibrating
NVHS MSA admins
- Only MSA admins can post announcements — and admins manage members too
- Admins add and remove other admins by email on the Manage page
- Add a student by name, with the email they sign in with — they're a member as soon as they sign in
A better Manage page
- “Approve all on the list”: everyone waiting whose name is on the MSA's list, in one tap
- New announcement right from Manage, who joined this week, and the list as a spreadsheet (CSV)
- Filter the list by Joined / Not yet, search by name or email, and take a name off the list
- Version 2.11.7
NVHS MSA: join with your school email
NVHS students on the MSA's list sign in with their school email and are accepted automatically — and managing the MSA is simpler.
Join with your school email
- Sign in with your school email (…@k12.ipsd.org) using the emailed code — not Google — and if you're on the MSA's list you're a member straight away
- The MSA page explains it step by step, and one tap switches a personal account to your school email
- Your school account owns your name: if someone else claimed it first, they're flagged
- The meeting code and requests still work for anyone not on the list
Simpler to manage
- The Manage page shows members, who's waiting, and how much of the list has joined at a glance
- Only what needs you is at the top; the meeting code opens when you need it
- The whole list with “Joined” or “Not joined yet” next to each name, a search box, and one-tap remove
- Teachers and MSA exec will be able to help manage this in a future update
Fixes
- Continue with Google now always asks which account to use, instead of signing in with the last one
- Version 2.11.6
NVHS MSA members
Join the NVHS MSA in the app — with the code shown at a meeting, or by asking — and see members-only announcements.
Join the MSA
- “Join the NVHS MSA” on the MSA page: type your first and last name, plus the meeting code if you're at a meeting
- The meeting code is 6 digits and changes every 10 minutes, so it only works if you're in the room — enter it and you're in straight away
- No code? Send your name and the MSA's approver checks it against the member list
- One account per name: if a name already belongs to a member, the request is flagged and you're asked to see Ibrahim in person
- Posters can mark an announcement “Members only” — for rooms, times and photos; nobody else receives it
- Membership lasts until the end of the school year (1 July); everyone re-joins in the fall
For the MSA's approver
- A Manage page with the live meeting code and a countdown to the next one
- Requests with “On the roster” or “Not on the roster” and the account that asked; approve, deny or remove in one tap; flagged ones first
- Paste the roster from Google Classroom; it's kept only in the private database, never in the app's code
- Version 2.11.5
Modes, made useful
Each mode now answers one question the moment you open the app — and switching takes one tap.
Every mode has a point
- Travel Mode tells you how to pray: Dhuhr, Asr and Isha as 2 rak'ahs, and when you may combine — with sources, right in the prayer card on Home
- Travel Mode: set the day you're coming home; after it, Home asks once and “I'm home” switches the mode off and your prayer times back to home
- Mosque Mode: one big “I'm at the mosque” button turns on Quiet Mode for an hour, and it ends by itself
- Hajj & Umrah Mode: your next step on Home, and a round counter for tawaf and sa'i that says where each round goes
Cleaner and easier
- No more box of grey tiles above Home: the mode's answer sits inside the prayer card, and Home gets shorter
- Tap the mode badge in the top bar to switch modes without leaving the page
- A simpler mode picker: one row per mode, one tap, and a line saying what each is for
- The app's own icons and a colour for each mode, instead of emoji
- Kids Mode is set up from the Family page (linked from Modes), since it belongs to a child's device
Fixes
- If your location can't be found, Travel Mode and Mosque Mode say so instead of loading forever
- On a Friday afternoon, Mosque Mode shows next Friday's Jumu'ah, not today's
- Long Names of Allah no longer push the Name of the day card off the edge of small phones
- Version 2.11.0
NVHS MSA
A home for the Neuqua Valley High School Muslim Student Association: its announcements, with pictures, for everyone.
New: NVHS MSA
- An NVHS MSA page in the menu and sidebar with the club's announcements — no account needed to read them
- Each announcement can have a picture; long ones fold with “Read more”, and web links can be tapped
- Important announcements also appear as one slim card on everyone's Home, which you can hide
- The MSA's posters sign in to post, edit, pin and delete — with a title, text and a photo, and an end date so old posts disappear
- Only the MSA's own accounts can post, and the server checks it every time; photos are shrunk and their location data removed before upload
- Works offline with the last announcements loaded; Kids Mode never shows them
- Version 2.10.0
Modes
A new way to experience SalaamStreet: five Modes that put the right tools first for what you're doing — at home, travelling, learning as a child, on Hajj or Umrah, or at the mosque.
New: Modes
- Choose Your Mode — Normal, Travel, Kids, Hajj & Umrah and Mosque — from your Account page, the menu or the sidebar
- Each mode puts its own dashboard at the top of Home and reorders your quick links; switching back to Normal restores everything, and nothing is ever deleted
- Your mode is remembered after a refresh or restart, and syncs across your devices when you're signed in; guests keep it on the device and bring it with them when they sign up
- A small mode badge in the top bar opens the mode picker; gentle, dismissible suggestions (at most one per visit) offer a mode on the Mosques, Calendar and travel-dua pages
Kids Mode and Family
- A parent-managed Kids Mode: add several children (first name or nickname, age range and avatar only) and choose what each can use
- Children never get the parent's password: a device is connected to one child with a one-time code, or by the parent on their own device, and a grown-up PIN is needed to leave
- Learn prayer and wudu, read and listen to short surahs, everyday duas, stories of the Prophets, Names of Allah, good manners, pillars and history — every lesson with its source
- Quizzes, put-the-steps-in-order activities, flashcards, a daily learning card and gentle achievements — saved for each child separately, never a competition
- A Family page for parents: each child's real progress, achievements and devices; restrictions enforced by the server; reset progress or remove a child and all their data
Travel Mode
- Prayer times with a countdown, the Qibla and the Hijri date wherever you are — with or without location permission
- A destination with its own prayer times and Qibla, saved places, and one tap to use a place for prayer times app-wide (and back home again)
- Travel duas, a four-part travel checklist, and sourced guidance on shortening and combining prayers that sets out where the schools differ
Hajj & Umrah Mode
- Step-by-step Umrah (7 steps) and Hajj (11 steps, 8–13 Dhul-Hijjah) guides with sources, the duas for each step, and notes where scholars differ
- Mark steps done, see where you are and what's next, resume where you left off, and start over for a new pilgrimage; a packing and preparation checklist
Mosque Mode
- Choose your mosque near you or by searching an area, save favourites, and see its prayer times, next Friday and Qibla
- Honest data: details come from OpenStreetMap and are labelled as such; times are calculated start times, not the mosque's iqamah; you can note a Jumu'ah time for yourself
- Optional Quiet Mode: no animations, fewer cards, and no non-prayer reminders or sounds from SalaamStreet while you're there
Improvements
- Everything in Modes works on phones, tablets and desktops, in light and dark themes, in all seven interface languages, with keyboard and screen-reader support
- Mode pages load only when opened, and keep working offline once visited
- The mosque finder now also shows a mosque's website and phone when OpenStreetMap has them
- Version 2.9.5
More Stories, and a cleaner app
Eleven new stories beyond the Prophets, a clear Play/Pause to listen to a whole story, and a tidier, less cluttered app.
Stories
- 11 new stories — now 17 in four groups: the Prophets, Stories from the Qur'an, the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions, and Stories the Prophet ﷺ told
- New: Maryam, the People of the Cave, Luqman's advice, the Owners of the Garden, the Year of the Elephant, Khadijah, the Hijrah, Bilal, the Three Men in the Cave, Water for a Thirsty Dog, and the Man Who Never Gave Up on Repentance
- A big, clear Play / Pause button: listen to a whole story — each ayah is recited and the story moves on by itself
- Stories have moved off the Home screen — find them in the menu
A cleaner app
- Removed the MSA preview tab until MSA tools are ready (still planned for a future update)
- The “new version is ready” bar only appears when there really is a newer version
- Layout fixes on the Stories page and in the story viewer
- Version 2.9.0
SalaamStreet Stories
Stories of the Prophets in short tap-through slides — told only from the Qur'an and authentic hadith, with the source on every part.
- New: SalaamStreet Stories — the stories of Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim, Yusuf, Musa and Yunus
- Every part shows the Qur'an's own words in Arabic with the translation, straight from the Qur'an reader's source, and you can listen to each ayah
- Each story ends with its lesson, and any part can be shared as an image
- “Today”: the Ayah, Name, Dua and Hadith of the day as one short story
- Story circles at the top of Home; tap or swipe through, and your progress is saved
- Version 2.8.0

- When a new version is ready, SalaamStreet asks before updating
- Version 2.7.0
Hadith + Knowledge
Ten hadith collections with every grading shown, a new Knowledge tab, and a calmer, less crowded app.
Hadith
- Six new collections: Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i, Sunan Ibn Majah, Muwatta Malik and the 40 Hadith of Shah Waliullah — ten in all
- Jump straight to any book (chapter) of Bukhari, Muslim, the Sunan and the Muwatta, and see which book you're reading
- Every scholar's grading is shown — the first on the card, the rest one tap away — with weak grades clearly marked
- Hadith of the day from An-Nawawi's Forty, and each collection now names its compiler
Knowledge
